Froogle Feed FAQ's | Print |

These are some of the question i get emails on EVERY day, but please don't think that just because i get these, you cant send me any, that's my job to answer them.

Does this feed work as a normal RSS XML feed?

Sort off, it doesnt work as a standard XML RSS feed, as it had to be slightly altered to fit Googles requirements, but it does a pretty good job of what a standard RSS feed does. If your not sure if it will do what you want, please try the demo of the latest version to the right of here.

But just to clarify, its not designed as an RSS feed to be viewed through browsers such as IE7 or Fire fox, it is designed to work with Google and other comparison sites. Although sometimes it works and other times it doesnt as a standard RSS feed, it depends on the data it exports depending on the products and categories you have in your shop.

How do i download the feed?
Simple, you simply open your website in IE7 or IE6, and when you see the module which has the links "All Products", "Latest Products" etc, right click on the link and click "Save Target As", this will open a save box with a file name like "all_products.xml" already placed.
You can watch the video of this being done here

How many products can it export?

This isn't really an accurate question, as the module will keep generating for ever in theory. We have had one client exported 61,599 products, but another struggle to get 12,000 as they were using budget hosting. We can provide you the exported 61,599 products file so you can see what it looks like, all 3/4 million lines of code lol.

Can i customize the module to fit my website?

The feed has a css suffix but comes as standard to work with the same CSS as the main menu would, so you can customize it as much as you like if you want it to look different. It was actually built from the original RSS Feed which comes standard with Joomla, its just the code which links into the database that is different, so yes the module can be completely customised.

What hosting/server requirements do i need?

There is no requirements that we know off, we have never in had any body yet have any issues, the only issues we have had, is HUGE product exports, like the 61,599 i mentioned above.

Why do i have to pay, I thought Joomla stuff is free?

Joomla is free (well open source, but same thing), but unfortunately my rent, food, pizzas, vodka and petrol isn't. Some parts of this module has been produced by freelancers how have much more talent than myself, but i had to pay them for this, and trust me it cost much more than £25. I still yet haven't made my money back on how much money in pure freelancers costs, it cost to finish this off, never mind my own time.

The £25 is also there to help me finance time and freelancers to improve and develop it further. But please trust me, I'm not driving around in a luxury vehicle, and my flat is not in the middle of London from the proceeds of this income.

Does it work with any product?

It works with any product, and we have it working on many industry sites and as long as its a product Google Base accepts, which i believe is anything legal (including the adult industry).

My business is the adult industry, will it work for that too?

Yes please see above. We have it working on many sites involved in the adult industry

Does it work for other price comparison sites, or is it just Froogle Google Base?
Yes and no, we have tried to contact many other sites to see if they accept this, and they were so unhelpful i cant tell you. One of them (price-runner oops Ive told you) didn't know what an RSS feed was!

But the Feed is very simple and could be used by any company, website or software that needs an XML file to provide a live feed to your products.

I only want to show a few categories, can this be done?

Yes it can, version 3 has this function added in as standard. This allows you to export just the categories you wish to show.
